Applications and Classification of Special-Shaped Steel Tubes
Applications
Special-shaped seamless steel pipes refer collectively to seamless steel pipes with cross-sectional shapes other than circular. Special-shaped seamless steel pipes are extensively used in various structural components, tools, and mechanical parts. Compared to round pipes, Special-shaped pipes generally possess larger moment of inertia and section modulus, offering greater resistance to bending and torsion. They better accommodate specific usage conditions, significantly reduce structural weight, conserve steel resources, and enhance labor productivity in component manufacturing. Consequently, they find widespread application in aviation, automotive, shipbuilding, mining machinery, agricultural machinery, construction, light industry and textiles, as well as boiler manufacturing.
Classification
By shape:
Hexagonal-outer-round-inner steel pipes, round-outer-hexagonal-inner steel pipes, hexagonal-outer-hexagonal-inner steel pipes, flat-oval steel pipes, oval steel pipes, triangular pipes, L-shaped steel pipes, octagonal pipes, mushroom-shaped pipes, bread-shaped pipes, D-shaped pipes, concave pipes, convex pipes, umbrella-shaped tubes, P-shaped tubes, ingot-shaped tubes, and other special-shaped steel tubes. The shapes of special-shaped steel tubes are produced according to customer requirements.
Based on differences in cross-sectional shape and dimensions, they can be further classified into:
- Special-shaped seamless steel tubes with uniform wall thickness.
- Special-shaped seamless steel tubes with non-uniform wall thickness.
- Special-shaped seamless steel tubes with variable diameter.
